We are happy to announce our GAUSS Career Impulse Session with Dr. Kai-Hsin Cathie Chan (Scitaris): Cathie is an alumna of the Molecular Biology MSc/PhD program. After graduating from the National Taiwan University College of Life Sciences, she earned her Master's and PhD degree in the lab of Prof. Marina Rodnina at the Max Planck Institute for Biophysical Chemistry.

We’re happy to announce our our next GAUSS Career Impulse Session with Dr. Cindy Wechsler (Pfizer Manufacturing Deutschland GmbH). Cindy is an alumna of our PhD Program “Biomolecules: Structure – Function – Dynamics”. She performed her doctoral thesis in the Bioanalytics Group of Prof Dr. Kai Tittmannn (Department of Molecular Enzymology) and successfully finished her PhD in 2014.

We are happy to announce our upcoming GAUSS Career Service workshop “Grant Writing” by Dr. John Dixon. This workshop is intended for postdoctoral researchers and late-stage PhD students who are new to the process of applying for a scientific research grant. Ideally, participants should already be in the process of applying for a grant or planning to start writing within the next 3 months. Therefore it is crucial that they have an idea about the research topic and and possible funding bodies.

Has someone failed if an experiment does not produce the desired result? The Volkswagen Foundation's clear answer: No! Because without error, there would be no new knowledge. Without error, there would be no progress. But creative failure has no lobby in the international science system. Those who have to meet short-term expectations, acquire third-party funding and produce a steady stream of papers shy away from time-consuming experiments with uncertain outcomes. As a result, mainstream research is booming, the willingness to take risks is declining, and scientific progress is stagnating.

BII & Science prize for innovation (deadline: Nov 1, 2021)

Behind every life-changing solution is an entrepreneurial scientist. A creative mind who proved an idea in the lab and dared to carry it out in the world. To encourage more scientists to translate their research, BioInnovation Institute (BII) & Science present a new annual award.

The  three winners will have their essays published in Science magazine and will be invited into BII’s entrepreneurial ecosystem. Horizon Europe. ERC Synergy Grant (deadline: Nov 10, 2021)

Applications for an ERC Synergy Grant (ERC SyG) must be submitted by a minimum of two to a maximum of four Principal Investigators (PIs) and must include an outstanding intrinsic synergetic effect. PIs have to present an early achievement track-record or a ten-year track-record, whichever is most appropriate.

ERC SyG seek to bring together complementary expertise, skills and resources in order to conduct research, which cannot be carried out by a single PI working alone. The group of PIs has to explain in the proposal why the research questions can best be tackled in this constellation.
