Information Event: “Behind the scenes at Cell Reports” (21 Mar 2023)

GGNB alumnus Christian Schnell, now senior Editor at Cell Reports (Cell Press, London, UK), will give an introduction to the publishing process at Cell Reports and Cell Press and explain what editors are looking for in your manuscripts, and how they make their decisions. He will also discuss how to find the best journal for your study and what (not) to write in the cover letter.

Royal Society Newton International Fellowships (apply by 28 March 2023)

Run jointly by the British Academy, the Academy of Medical Sciences and the Royal Society, the Newton International Fellowships are for non-UK scientists who are at an early stage of their research career and wish to conduct research in the UK. The will close to applications on 28 March 2023. Research must be within the Royal Society’s remit of natural sciences, which includes but is not limited to biological research, chemistry, engineering, mathematics and physics. 3-year independent projects for postdocs available at University of Bremen (apply by 1 April 2023)

The University of Bremen has again opend a call for 3-year independent projects for postdocs - this time the focus is interdisciplinarity. You can apply when you are from Germany or abroad. Regarding the stage of your career you can either apply shortly after your PhD (the certificate needs to be issued max 10 months after the application deadline and not be issued longer than two years before the deadline) or as an advanced postdoc aiming towards a professorship (2-4 years after your PhD). Life Science Bridge Award 2023 (100,000€; apply by 30 April 2023)

The Frankfurt-based Aventis Foundation will grant up to three annual research awards for young and talented postdoctoral researchers in life sciences or group leaders (minimum of 3 years postdoc experience). Each award will be endowed with a subsidy amount of € 100,000 to help creative postdocs pursue their innovative research projects and jump-start their careers in life sciences. In 2018, the Foundation has founded the Life Science Bridge Award for postdoctoral researchers in the field of life sciences, to help them successfully establish themselves in their academic field, pursue innovative approaches and boost their chances of gaining full professorship. Einstein Fellowship - for project ideas very different from your current research (apply by 15 May 2023)

The Einstein Forum and the Wittenstein Foundation are offering a the Einstein Fellowship for outstanding young thinkers who wish to pursue a project in a different field from that of their previous research. The purpose of the fellowship is to support those who, in addition to producing superb work in their area of specialization, are also open to other, interdisciplinary approaches – following the example set by Albert Einstein. The fellowship includes living accommodations for five to six months in the garden cottage of Einstein`s own summerhouse in Caputh, Brandenburg, only a short distance away from the universities and academic institutions of Potsdam and Berlin.
