GAUSS Career Impulse Session “Data Science in Industry and Consulting” with Nico Geisel on 28 Sept 2018

GAUSS-Career_Flyer_4seitig_09032018-1The GAUSS Career Service is happy to announce the next Career Impulse Session  titled “Data Science in Industry and Consulting” with Dr. Nico Geisel.

Harvard Business Review called Data Scientist “the sexiest job of the 21st century”, and in in particular it has also become a very attractive career path for graduates of physics, mathematics and similar. What is it like to work as a Data Scientist? Which career options exist for graduates and PhDs, and which professional profiles are sought after?

Nico Geisel will give answers to these questions, based on his experience working as a Principal and Lead Data Scientist at The Boston Consulting Group. Time will be given for further questions

Information about the speaker:

Nico Geisel is a Principal and Lead Data Scientist at the Boston Consulting Group (BCG). After graduating in Theoretical Physics from the University of Göttingen, and obtaining a PhD in biophysics from the University of Barcelona, Nico followed a career at BCG – the leading strategy and management consulting firm. Today he leads data science projects across industries and across Europe, and manages teams of data scientists, business consultants, and BCG’s industry-clients. His recent work focusses on the use of data and machine learning to improve industrial manufacturing processes, whereas he previously worked in sectors such as banking, energy and logistics. Nico also founded a smart-cities startup that used predictive analytics to guide drivers to available parking slots.

About the sessions:

Our Career Impulse Sessions offer a platform for interactive and informal exchange about career-related topics for PhD students and Postdocs in the Life and Natural Sciences. By inviting PhD holders with different career paths, we would like to illustrate the broad range of potential careers for PhD students and Postdocs and give inspiration for career choices. The sessions also offer a platform to exchange experiences among each other.
