…there is no reason why you cannot inform yourself on the perspectives of potential employers on applicants holding a PhD or learn from the expierence of others who were on the job hunt.
The German University Association of Advanced Graduate Training (UniWiND Universitätverband zur Qualifizierung des wissenschaftlichen Nachwuchses in Deutschland) published two small booklets (unfortunately only in German) on careers outside academia, one focussing on the experience of PhDs on the job hunt and one on the perspectives of potential employers. Both volumes include a chapter on the Life Sciences:
