About the speaker:
Martin is an alumnus of the IMPRS Molecular Biology and worked during his PhD on understanding synaptic transmission in the Neuro- and Sensory Physiology department of Prof. Silvio Rizzoli at the UMG. During this time, he performed microscopy and mass spectrometry analysis and developed software for data integration and image analysis, receiving his degree in 2019.
In 2020, he joined Miltenyi Biotec as a Data Scientist, working alongside 5000 colleagues to make cancer history. In this role, he developed software for the analysis of flow cytometry and clinical data, created reporting and dashboard tools as well as novel algorithms. In 2022, he moved to Vilua Healthcare GmbH to lead the Data Science team. Vilua’s vision is to use technology to help everybody live the healthiest life they can. To this end we develop mobile and web applications that give individual health recommendations. The data science team develops and maintains the central machine learning models powering these systems and provides analysis for healthcare insurances and industry customers. Martin is looking forward to share how he moved from a biological background into data science, his experiences working in large and very small companies as well as transitioning from an individual contributor to a team leader.
About the sessions: Our Career Impulse Sessions offer a platform for interactive and informal exchange about career-related topics for PhD students and postdocs in the Life and Natural Sciences. By inviting PhD holders with different career paths, we would like to illustrate the broad range of potential careers for PhD students and postdocs and give inspiration for career choices.
