EMBO New Venture Fellowship (apply by 2 May 2022)
The goal of the EMBO New Venture Fellowship is to support early career scientists, in any field of life science research, who would use this opportunity to enter a new field of research. The intention of these fellowships is to support high quality candidates to explore feasible projects or generate preliminary data to help transform their research trajectory.
EMBO New Venture Fellows will spend up to 90 days with a host group, working on joint projects. Projects should address important problems or barriers to progress in the life sciences, clearly promote interdisciplinary approaches, take the Fellow’s work in a new direction, and be carried out jointly with the host team.
The Award: Up to six fellowships will be awarded across two calls, the first took place in spring 2021. The travel costs and daily subsistence allowance will be provided to the fellows. Applicants must have a minimum of two years’ experience at PhD level and no more than two years’ experience as a principal investigator. Fellowships are awarded for exchanges between laboratories in EMBC Member States, Associate Member States, and co-operation partners.
About the Fellowhip: In memory of a bright-minded and passionate scientist, the EMBO New Venture Fellowships will help scientists explore topics outside their current area to allow them to pursue a new research direction in their future work. Suzanne Eaton was an internationally acclaimed scientist, known for her contribution to cell signalling, tissue mechanics and regulation of metabolism during development and mathematical modelling. She was actively engaged in multi-disciplinary research and encouraged others to overcome the challenges of entering a new field for the benefit of intellectual and scientific advancement. With the desire of many to honour Suzanne as a scientist, mentor, and friend, a fund was established in her memory.
