Changes in the GAUSS Career Service Office – message from Stefanie Klug

Dear GAUSS postdocs and PhD students,

Over a year has passed since I went on parental leave and who thought back then what challenges 2020 had in store for us all, which are still affecting us in 2021. Over this time, a lot has changed concerning our daily lives but also how things are run at the GAUSS Career Service.

First of all, I would like to take this opportunity to thank Vera Bissinger and Britta Korkowsky for covering my post during these difficult times. Together with Christin Schröter, who came back herself from parental leave at the beginning of the pandemic in March 2020, they did a great job keeping up the workshop schedule and career counseling. It hasn’t been easy to switch everything to online sessions more or less overnight and subsequently adapting most processes invisible to you, which are run in the background. Due to their efforts combined with the engagement of our workshop trainers, most originally planned workshops could be offered in 2020 and Vera conducted 70 career counseling sessions over the year. Thanks so much for your commitment and hard work during my absence!

Whilst I am taking over again the career counseling sessions including CV and applications checks from Vera, we are happy to announce that Britta is continuing to support the GAUSS Career Service Team in 2021. She will look after the Workshop Program and Career Impulse Sessions assisted by Christin as well as conducting our Newsletter. The Alumni work had to take a back seat in 2020, but now at full team capacity, I am very much looking forward to focusing on this again especially our Alumni Portal but also further developing our Alumni Mentoring Program.

I am looking forward to see many of you either in person or online.

All the best,

Stefanie
