Support for those affected by the war in the Ukraine
We are very grateful to Melissa Sollich who is conducting the Göttingen Campus wide postdoc newsletter, that we are allowed to copy her Ukraine section to feature it here as it is a great summary of available support and how you can help.
The University webpages (United against the war in Ukraine / Gemeinsam gegen den Krieg in der Ukraine) have useful links for people here who want to help. In particular, note the International Office’s information for refugees, students, prospective students and guest researchers.
- VolkswagenStiftung support for researchers who have fled Ukraine: with immediate effect, applications for 6-12 months funding can be submitted by PhD students and researchers for research in Germany. The application should be submitted by host scientists at German universities in conjunction with the university management.
- Funded visiting scholarships for Ukrainian PhD students to Mainz University who have started a PhD in the area of (soft) condensed matter.
- Open Society University Network: TSI (threatened scholars integration initiative) offers Fellowships in OSUN institutions for scholars who have lost their academic positions or cannot remain in their home countries due to threats or actions from authoritarian regimes, persecution for their views or identities, or other risks.
- DFG expands support for refugee researchers by opening up applications for the Walter Benjamin programme with the aim of enabling this target group to become integrated in the German research system at any stage of their career (after completing a PhD). It is also possible for other academics to integrate refugees in existing DFG proposals (here and scroll down)
- Visiting fellowships for social scientistsaffected by the war in Ukraine (3 months). MPI for the Study of Religious and Ethnic Diversity. For details
