International PhD Day

The four graduate schools in Göttingen would like to invite you to the International PhD Day on 4th October 2018 at the Historical Observatory (Geismar Landstr. 11).

This welcome event is part of the Introductory Week for International Students, which will take place from 1st October 2018 to 5th October 2018.

The International PhD Day addresses both new and already experienced PhD students. It will include a welcome address by the Vice president of the University (Prof. Dr. Casper-Hehne) and the Mayor of Göttingen (Rolf-Georg Köhler), an English-language guided city tour through Göttingen, and a workshop on “German Academic Culture”.

Furthermore, there will be the opportunity to exchange your views and experiences with other PhD students and get in contact with the staff of the four graduate schools.

In the morning Meeting point/Place
9 am to 11 am English-language guided city tour through Göttingen Meeting point: old town hall; endpoint: historical observatory
11 am to 11:30 am Visit of the historical observatory, residence of Carl Friedrich Gauß Historical Observatory
9:00 am to 12 noon English-language workshop “German Academic Culture” Convention Center by the Observatory, Geismar Landstr. 11b
In the afternoon
1 pm to 3 pm English-language guided city tour through Göttingen Meeting point: old town hall; endpoint: historical observatory
1:00 pm to 4 pm English-language workshop “German Academic Culture” Convention Center by the Observatory, Geismar Landstr. 11b
3:00 pm to 4 pm Meet your Graduate School, introduction on offers of the four graduate schools Historical Observatory
4:30 pm to 6 pm Welcome Address by the Vice President of the University and the Mayor of Göttingen Old town hall

Timetable of the International PhD Day, 4th October 2018

(Note: For both the tours and the workshop you can either choose the morning or the afternoon slots)

 

During the whole day, the four graduate schools will provide further information on doctoral studies, the University and Göttingen in general and are available for your personal questions at the historical observatory. Use this unique opportunity to meet and get in contact with your fellow PhD students and the staff of the graduate schools in an informal atmosphere.
