Career Talk “How much time do you have for physics in a physics startup?” by Dr Dirk Hönig (Alumni Chapter Physics), 31 Aug 2022

AG_Sektionen_farbig_PhysikThe Alumni Göttingen Chapter Physics is organizing a career talk on 31 August 2022 with Dr Dirk Hönig on “How much time do you have for physics in a physics startup?”

Already during his physics diploma thesis in 1991 at the Max Planck Institute for Biophysical Chemistry, alumnus Dirk Hönig founded his first company to market an invention in the field of thin-film measurement technology. What is nowadays gladly promoted as “startup culture” in all kinds of networks was not yet particularly appreciated at German universities and institutes in the early nineties. The beginnings were correspondingly arduous. After completing his doctorate, Dirk Hönig (co-)founded several companies in the field of high-tech engineering over the years, and of course gained all kinds of good and bad experiences in the process.

What role does physics play in day-to-day business? What is it about money as a resource? How close are success and failure? Does the term “startup” stand for marathon or sprint? And why it doesn’t work without a sales perspective? This is what the two alumni, physicists and founders Dirk Hönig and Johannes Loxen want to discuss with all participants in a relaxed round of talks.
