GAUSS emergency support – new scholarship
Dear doctoral students in GAUSS.
In February 2021 our (former*) GAUSS student representatives Christian Roth & Hanna Knirsch invited you to take part in a short GAUSS COVID-19 funding survey. The survey was aimed at getting an insight about the funding issues of the GAUSS doctoral students which may become particularly challenging in times of the pandemic.
The result of this survey helped us to assess the need for financial emergency support. In response to the survey, in which 644 GAUSS doctoral students participated, the GAUSS managing board agreed on its last meeting to expand its support of doctoral candidates facing critical financial situations. Every student is eligible to apply for an emergency scholarship as long as this would help to finalize the doctoral research. An emergency scholarship can be granted for up to three months and can be extended under exceptional circumstances.

With the start of the emergency support we are cancelling our general travel grants. Travel grants can only be applied for as an emergency and will be granted if our finances permit – all other emergency funding requests will be given priority over travel grants.

Please note that our financial resources are limited and we cannot approve all funding requests. However, please do not hesitate to contact us in any case. Applications are considered all year round. You are also welcome to get in touch with us before submitting an application. We will do our best to support you during this difficult time or assist you in finding alternative financing possibilities.
