Information about Corona-Warn-App & digital vaccination certificate
Here we list some important information on how the Corona Warning App works and how you can obtain a vaccination certificate (needed for the digital vaccination confirmation).
Corona-Warn-App
In case you have donwloaded and activated the Corona-Warn-App on your smartphone it will record encounters in the background while you go about your daily activities. The app automatically collects encrypted random codes via Bluetooth from nearby smartphone users that also have activeted the Corona-Warn-App (see https://www.coronawarn.app/en/ for more information, including technical details and data security). These random codes are stored for 14 days exclusively on the smartphones of the respective users who have met. If you have had any risk encounters with people who have tested positive for the SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus you will be notified by the app. Depending on the type of encounters, a low or increased risk of infection is displayed. In addition, the app provides you with relevant information on important hygiene and behavioural rules.
On the other hand you can notify other users anonymously in case you have been tested positive for SARS-CoV-2 – just add the result of the positive test into your app. Likewise, positive results of rapid antigen tests carried out by certain providers can also be registered into the Corona-Warn-APP. Information about which rapid tests can be integrated can be found under “Where rapid tests are offered whose result can be displayed in the Corona-Warn-App”.
The Corona-Warn-App also offers a contact diary that you can use to document your daily encounters with people as well as the locations of the encounters. Keeping the contact diary can help to quickly identify and inform your own contacts from the past 14 days in case of infection.
The Corona-Warn-App can also be used to document events or happenings. Users can register their participation in such an event by scanning the respective QR code provided by the event organiser. An “event” can be very different activities. For example, it can be retail shopping, events or even private meetings. Again, no personal data is collected. Rather, the “events” that were attended are stored in the app’s contact diary on the smartphone. If a risk notification (warning) is issued later, it becomes apparent whether the risk encounter took place in connection with a specific event.
Digital vaccination certificate
In case you have been fully vaccinated against the coronavirus (i.e. two weeks after the second vaccination) you can visit a pharmacy with your yellow vaccination booklet or the confirmation from the vaccination center to integrate a digital vaccination certificate into the Corona-Warn-App.
The vaccination certificate is issued by the pharmacy in the form of a QR code. This can be read and saved with your smartphone using the Corona-Warn-App or the app CovPass. Both are supported by the Robert Koch Institute (no costs are incurred for this). The CovPass-App only includes the vaccination confirmation, while the Corona-Warn-App also includes digital, fully anonymous background tracking for infections, as outlined above.
Among other things, the digital Corona vaccination passport should make travelling within the EU easier. The proof on the mobile phone can also be useful for visits to restaurants or events.
Important: the information from the digital vaccination certificate “possibly” have to be supported by a passport or identity card.
Note: the digital vaccination certificate remains a voluntary and supplementary offer. Those who do not have a smartphone or do not want to present the proof digitally can continue to use the analogue yellow paper vaccination card/booklet.
